The Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Adviser on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has paid tribute to the late Maj Gen (Rtd) Christopher Kazoora, describing him as a committed patriot and professional soldier who served Uganda with honour and distinction.
Gen Kainerugaba’s message was delivered by Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Force Commander of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), during Kazoora’s burial on Sunday at his ancestral home in Luwama Village, Kinyongoga Parish, Nakaseke District.
Maj Gen Kazoora passed away on January 9, 2026, at Nakasero Hospital after a period of illness.
“General Kazoora fought for this nation and protected it throughout his years of service,” Gen Kainerugaba said. “We thank him for his bravery, dedication, and selfless service to Uganda.”
Kazoora joined the armed struggle on May 26, 1979, enlisting with the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) before later becoming part of the National Resistance Army (NRA), the precursor of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Over the years, he held several command and administrative positions, playing a key role in the development and professionalisation of Uganda’s national army.
Senior UPDF officers at the burial praised Kazoora for his discipline, leadership, and contribution to building a modern military force, noting that his service spanned some of the most defining moments in Uganda’s post-independence history.
In an emotional tribute, Kazoora’s widow, Mrs Catherine Nyambuhoro Kazoora, described her late husband as a loving and devoted partner during their 38 years of marriage.
“He loved me, cared for me, and looked after me wholeheartedly,” she said. “I am in great pain and do not know how I will live without him.”
Mrs Kazoora also thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the support extended to her husband during his illness and expressed appreciation to UPDF leadership and officers for standing with the family throughout the difficult period.
The burial drew a large gathering of senior UPDF generals and officers, government officials, political leaders, clergy, family members, and friends, reflecting the high regard in which Maj Gen Kazoora was held.
He is remembered as an officer who dedicated his life to Uganda’s liberation struggle and subsequent efforts to maintain national security and stability.
